Cost per hire calculator

Agency fees are the number everyone quotes because it arrives as an invoice. The larger number is usually the hours your own team spends, which nobody counts. This adds both.

The part that never shows up on an invoice

Your own team spends 324 hours a year on this, worth $22,917. That is 22 percent of your total hiring cost, and none of it arrives as a bill.

Most of those hours sit at the top of the funnel, reading profiles that were never going to work. That is the block I take off you, in the channel you already use.

What people ask about this tool

Why is my cost per hire higher than the benchmarks?

Because most published benchmarks count external spend only. Once you price the recruiter and hiring manager hours at real salary cost, the number roughly doubles for in-house teams.

What is a reasonable cost per hire?

For in-house engineering hiring, four to twelve thousand all in is common. With an agency at twenty percent of an eighty thousand salary, you are at sixteen thousand before your own team spends an hour.

Should we just use agencies then?

Sometimes yes. For one urgent senior role with no internal capacity, an agency is often the right call and I say so on the comparison pages. It stops being the right call when it is your default for every role.

Where does the time actually go?

Top of funnel. Around 350 sourced profiles per engineering hire, at a few minutes of human attention each. That is the block of hours this calculator makes visible, and the block I take off you.
