What are the alternatives to LinkedIn Recruiter?

There are four practical alternatives: open web sourcing tools that index published work, AI sourcing platforms built on licensed profile databases, recruiting CRMs that organise outreach you source elsewhere, and managed services that do the sourcing for you. Which one fits depends on whether your bottleneck is the candidate pool, the hours, or the organisation of the work.

The seat renewal is coming up. What are we actually choosing between?

    Laidback

Ask what your bottleneck is. Not enough of the right people, not enough hours, or not enough structure. Each answer points at a different category.

    Laidback

If it is the pool, the only thing that changes it is searching different data.

    Different index, different names

What each alternative is good at

    Open web sourcing

Indexes repositories, portfolios, papers and company writing. Best when the people you want do not keep profiles current. This is where I sit.

    AI sourcing platforms

Natural language search over a licensed profile database. Faster than boolean, but the candidate pool is the same one every competitor licenses.

    Recruiting CRMs

Sequencing, pipeline and analytics. Solves organisation and visibility, not supply. You still have to source into it.

    Managed services

Humans do the sourcing and hand you batches. Good if you want it off your plate entirely, slower whenever the brief changes.

Switching rarely happens in one step. Teams usually run one open role through an alternative, compare the shortlists, and let the seat matter less over time.

The test worth running is overlap: same brief, both tools, count how many names appear in only one of the lists. If the overlap is high, the underlying data is the same and the interface is the only difference.

If it is low, you just found out the pool was the bottleneck.

I know this work before you brief me

Your brief tells me who you need now. Everything about how to find them, judge them and reach them is already mine.

    I read potential, not keywords

Titles lie and stacks change. I look at what someone shipped, who they shipped it with, and how fast they grew into the work.

Every call comes with its evidence

You get the commit, the talk, the customer they carried, the line in the release notes. If I cannot show why, I do not claim it.

    The same rubric, every candidate

Your bar becomes a written rubric I apply the same way on Monday and on Friday, so a shortlist is comparable instead of moody.

    You can argue with me

Disagree with a score and I show the reasoning behind it, then carry your correction into the next batch.

The questions that usually come next

    Does Laidback replace our ATS?

No. Your ATS stays the system of record. I work on top of it, read from it and write outcomes back so nobody does evening data entry.

    Who sends the outreach?

Your team does. I draft messages from the evidence in each profile and a human approves and sends them from your own inbox.

How long until the first shortlist?

The same day. Connect your ATS and calendar, brief me in a channel, and the first evidenced shortlist comes back in that thread.

    Laidback

See it on your own open role

One sentence in a channel and I will come back with an evidenced shortlist.
