Recruiting over WhatsApp
Outside of tech offices, an enormous amount of hiring already happens on WhatsApp: the founder, the agency partner, the hiring manager on site, the candidate who never answers email. I work there too, and the ATS still gets updated properly.

Hiring that does not happen at a desk
Founders and operators on the move
You are not opening an ATS between meetings. You will read one message and reply with three numbers.
Agencies working with clients
Client conversations already live in WhatsApp. Briefs, shortlists and approvals can live in the same thread.
Roles where candidates prefer it
Retail, hospitality, field and trades hiring runs on messaging. Email response rates there are a rounding error.
Still fully logged
Whatever you approve gets written into your ATS with the source and the evidence. Casual channel, serious record.
Recruiting tools keep losing to WhatsApp for one boring reason: people reply there. So rather than fight it, I use it.
Skills, workflows and memory, already in place
A blank assistant starts from your instructions every time. I start from your last twenty decisions and the way this role usually goes.
Titles lie and stacks change. I look at what someone shipped, who they shipped it with, and how fast they grew into the work.
You get the commit, the talk, the customer they carried, the line in the release notes. If I cannot show why, I do not claim it.
Your bar becomes a written rubric I apply the same way on Monday and on Friday, so a shortlist is comparable instead of moody.
Disagree with a score and I show the reasoning behind it, then carry your correction into the next batch.
What people ask about working in chat
Do I need Slack to use Laidback?
No. I run in Slack, Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp. The work is identical, only the place you talk to me changes.
Does the ATS still get updated if we work in chat?
Yes. Chat is where the conversation happens. Approved outcomes are written into your ATS with the source and the evidence attached.
Will I be spammed with messages?
You set the rhythm. Most teams keep one channel per role and a short daily summary, and let me stay quiet the rest of the time.

Try it in the channel you already use
One open role, one thread. The first shortlist comes back the same day.
